19 Jul 21 ‘Village Hall’ has fully reopened for all user groups and bookings.

24 Apr 21‘Village Hall Reopening Date’: 17 May 2021

The four-step roadmap of dates to ease lockdown restrictions announced by government in late February will enable the Village Hall to reopen from 17th May (step 3 in their roadmap, subject to change) for many of the regular user groups and activities.  Social distancing rules will still need to apply at that time.  From the 21st June (step 4) social distancing rules are expected to be removed and all types of activities and
functions can resume. 

17 May         Art Class, Badminton, Cinema, Knit & Natter, Sewing, Snooker, Tai Chi, Snooker, Wednesday Coffee Morning & Youth Club (social distancing rule apply)                 

21 June         All activities and ad-hoc bookings can resume    

10 Apr 21 ‘BCA Membership Subscriptions Update’ 

Following our last update in January, membership subscriptions for 2020 will be further extended to the end of June 2021 – covering a period of 18 months.  Thereafter, from July 2021, we hope that you will renew your annual membership – at the same membership subscription fee that has been held in place for 12 years. 

Whilst the hall is closed, we continue to use the opportunity to progress repairs and works on the building (including recently installed stage lighting) and look forward to reopening the doors to everyone. 

4 Apr 21 ‘Notice of AGM’ – Wednesday 30th June 2021, 7:30pm Village Hall

Annual Financial Accounts & Election of officers of the BCA (for Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer & Social Secretary). Any resolutions to be with the Secretary (Jo Dalton: ) one week beforehand.  All members are very welcome to attend.   Several committee members are stepping down this year, having kindly served for many years.  As usual, nominations for the BCA management committee will be accepted up to the start of the meeting.   NB: If social distancing rules are still in force at that time, the meeting will take place online (open to all members using a link posted on the BCA website).

10 Nov 20 ‘Golf Course open to walkers‘ …please see update below from Peter Burdess on behalf of Brancepeth Golf Club Committee:

The Golf Club is allowing village residents to walk the course as per the previous lockdown.  Please follow the criteria below: 

  • Residents of the Village are welcome to walk the course with care
  • Social Distancing as per Government Guidelines must be maintained
  • Walkers must keep to paths and roads where possible
  • Walkers must keep off Fairways and Greens as green staff are refurbishing the course
  • Walkers cannot use Bridges as Bridges will be closed
    Dogs must be on a lead at all times and any toileting by Dogs must be removed and taken home
  • Walkers enter the course at their own risk and the Club accept no liability for any injury while on the course
  • Walking Only on the Course. No cycling is allowed under any circumstances or Games
  • Walking of the Course will stop when Government & England Golf allow playing of Golf

So that Residents of the Village can be contacted the Club would welcome the residents joining as Social Members (at least) Playing Membership is also available. Please visit: 

9 Nov 20 ‘Santas & Snowman’ orders …

Peter & Liz Burdess are kindly making Santa & Snowman to help boost the BCA funds for upkeep of the Village Hall.  The snowman’s scarf can be styled in various colours (i.e. football team or school colours).   Contact: or 0191 378 3303   £5 each (all proceeds to support the village hall).

27/5/20 Brancepeth Castle Golf Club – is now doing some basic outside catering at the clubhouse: teas, coffee, scones, cakes & pies etc., If anyone is walking that way’s a lovely stop off to pick up a take-away service. There are distancing and specific routes that need to be followed.  All are very welcome.

11/5/20 Brancepeth Castle Golf Club – Following today’s announcement about changes made to the lockdown rules the club is pleased to advise the reopening of the course to members from Wednesday 13th May.  Therefore, the course will not be accessible to walkers from this date.   Once fully open, the club is offering social membership to villagers for £20 per annum which includes a 10% discount card on drinks.  The club hopes that you have enjoyed the facility and will continue to do so until 13th May.  Three cheers for the club – it was really good of them to have facilitated access for the last several weeks.

2/5/20 Brancepeth Castle Golf Club – Notice to Dog Walkers.  The golf club has received several complaints about some dogs not being kept under control, – both on and off leads – fouling paths and short grass areas (including one fairway!).  Please be responsible when walking your dog on the course – nobody wants the greens and paths spoilt for the many by the few.  There are now notices up around the club about this issue.   Please, please if you are walking your dog remove all dog little and take it home and dispose of. Thank you!

30/4/20 COVID scams! Durham County Council’s trading standards team is advising an increase in scams related to the virus.  Residents should  be very wary of these.  Please be on your guard.

1. You walk on the golf course under your own volition and the club will not be held responsible for any accidents while on the course. 

2. Please stick to paths where available and do not walk in the very rough areas where there are likely to be brambles as they are serious trip hazards. 

3. Please stay off the greens at all times. 

4. Please observe any instructions given by the green staff.

1/4/20  Brancepeth Castle Golf Club:  During this difficult time the club has kindly agreed to offer the golf course for villagers’ to walk on.  Obviously the area is normally closed to all walkers – but as there is no golfing at the moment it is safe for people to walk on.  It is a beautiful area and villagers’ can either enjoy a short walk or a longer one (up to 6 miles) if you follow the 18-hole circuit.  Please keep to waking on the paths only (not the greens), observe social distancing, please do not disturb the greenkeepers and please pick up all dog litter – thank you.  Update kindly provided by Jim
